Charlotte’s Web coming to Fergus

FERGUS – Centre Wellington’s newest theatre company – Centre Wellington Theatre Productions – is presenting Charlotte’s Web, a heartwarming story that will delight audiences of all ages, adapted by Joseph Robinette, based on the popular book,  and directed by Jennifer Milne.

Wilbur, the runt pig, is born on an idyllic farm, and nurtured by Fern, the farmer’s daughter.

When news of his impending doom comes, as it does for many livestock, his animal friends, especially a creative spider named Charlotte, conspire to save his life by having him win the first prize at the county fair.

With the aid of a variety of colourful barnyard characters, including a rat named Templeton, Charlotte weaves descriptions such as “Radiant” and “Terrific” into her web for all to see, so that they understand that Wilbur is “Some Pig,” thus saving his life.

Close to 50 community members of varying ages, experience and walks of life have contributed to the launch of this company, with a startup donation from Price Team Mortgages.

The presentation for schools has completely sold out, and tickets for the general public on Nov. 15, 16 and 17 at Melville United Church, are moving quickly.

Tickets can be bought through The Grand Theatre by calling 519-787-1981 or by accessing the theatre website – fergusgrandtheatre.ca.

The cast was out on Oct. 26 for Breakfast with Wilbur at JJ’s Restaurant. Ray Kavanagh who plays Wilbur greeted children downtown at the Fergus Trick or Treat.
