Customer Service Award
Ernie Hunter and Meat the Butcher received the Arny Feairs Customer Service Award.
“Ernie Hunter and his staff are always pleasant and give great service,” the nomination stated.
“The fresh meats and fish are that … fresh. There is a wide variety of frozen as well. The store-made pre-made meals are delicious and very handy. Special orders and amount are not an issue. All you have to do is ask.”
Hunter supports local producers and local entrepreneurs, as pickles, butters, cheeses and other items are sold “in this very clean store.” He also supports the local community, helping with sales of tickets for local charities and theatre and donating to local causes.
“Meat the Butcher is the type of store that promotes Mount Forest’s Main Street,” the nomination said. “Great product supports the community and consistent, pleasant service to its customers.
“Ernie and his staff go above and beyond.”
Also nominated for the Customer Service Award were Saugeen Fitness and Spa, Mount Forest Foodland, APC Mount Forest, Amanda Boylan of Stumbled Upon, Kayla Morton of Youngsters on Main, Scott Young of Scott’s Pizza Burger, Cynthia & Co., Sarel Smit of North Wellington Co-op and Ruth MacDonald of M&M Food Market.
Corporate Citizen
Canadian Tire is a very valued member of the local business community and, this July, will be celebrating 80 years in Mount Forest.
The recent opening of a brand new 22,000 square-foot location in Mount Forest “shows the tremendous confidence Canadian Tire Corp has in our community.”
Owner Luciano Amico has already sponsored an Easter contest on the local radio station, providing a new bike to the winner.
Canadian Tire supports the local Fireworks Festival and also advertises and supports the local sports complex, curling club and Lions Club Christmas parade, among other events.
It was announced Amico has purchased a home in Mount Forest and the community “looks forward to working with Luciano and supporting his store for many, many years.”
Also nominated for Corporate Citizen of the Year were Ivan Lawrence, Marty Young and Murray Townsend.
The Excellence Awards Gala opened with cocktails with members of the local Lions manning the bar, followed by a buffet dinner catered by A+ Catering and the awards presentation.
Caroline Beren was MC for the evening. Shawn McLeod is president of the Mount Forest District Chamber of Commerce, which presents the gala.
