Centre Wellington’s first Community Supports Fair slated for Oct. 18

FERGUS – Centre Wellington organizations are coming together to show the community what supports are available and to provide resources through a collaborative event.

The Centre Wellington Community Supports Fair will take place on Oct. 18 from 4:30 to 6:30pm at the Fergus Highland Rugby Clubhouse, located at Victoria Park, 160 Albert St., Fergus.

What started as a conversation about food rescue and rising food insecurity has grown into an event aimed at connecting local residents with a wide range of support organizations.

The event will be set up in a “resource fair” format, where participating organizations will host individual tables.

Attendees will have the opportunity to gather information, ask questions and engage in meaningful conversations with representatives from various groups offering support services across Centre Wellington.

Twenty-three different organizations are confirmed so far, including:

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Centre Wellington;
  • Centre Wellington Food Bank;
  • Wellington County Learning Centre;
  • The Giving Spot;
  • Friendly Friday’s Free Market;
  • Community Resource of North and Centre Wellington;
  • Guelph Humane Society;
  • Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health;
  • The Door Youth Centre;
  • The Grove Youth Wellness Hubs;
  • Sanguen Health Centre;
  • Victoria Park Seniors Centre; and the
  • Upper Grand Family Health team.

After initial planning discussions between Curt McQueen of the Centre Wellington Food Bank and Chelsey Bell, organizer of Friendly Fridays, the two brought Alissa Potts from the Giving Spot on board.

“We are excited to see how this event has evolved and how many organizations are coming together who provide essential services to the community,” stated McQueen in a press release.

“This fair is about more than addressing food insecurity – it’s about showcasing the diverse supports available to residents in Centre Wellington.”

In addition to the information available, volunteers from the Centre Wellington Food Bank kitchen will be providing soup, snacks and treats for everyone attending.

All members of the community are invited to this free event to find resources and connect with local organizations, leading to a stronger, healthier community.
