WELLINGTON COUNTY – Police have charged a Centre Wellington teenager with sexual assault.
In an Oct. 3 press release, Wellington County OPP officials started an investigation into what police are calling “a historical sexual assault” at a home somewhere in Wellington County.
A 13-year-old from Centre Wellington was charged with sexual assault and is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
Police told the Advertiser the sexual assault occurred in 2023, adding it was referred to as “historical” because it wasn’t reported right away.
Police routinely do not identify the lower-tier municipality where such incidents take place in order to protect the identity of the victim.
The teen charged can not be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
The OPP noted anyone needing support following a sexual assault can access the following resources:
- Victim Services Wellington, 519-824-1212;
- Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Care and Treatment Centre, 519-837-6440; and
- Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis, 519-836-1110 or 1-800-265-7233.
Victims of sexual assault and intimate partner violence are not alone,” police stated in the press release.
“If you, or someone you know, needs support, there are local resources … available to help.”
