Centre Wellington Township may not have received the deal it wanted to provide natural gas to Belwood, but that does not mean councillors will stop trying.
CAO Andy Goldie told council on March 26 the recommendation before council was to continue lobbying.
He noted township staff worked with natural gas provider Union Gas to identify a joint project to service the hamlet of Belwood and filed an application for funding under the Natural Gas Grant Program.
In December the township was told the application was not successful.
The provincial program was oversubscribed with $500 million in project applications with only $100 million available.
Goldie said council and staff will continue to support servicing the Belwood area by urging Minister of Infrastructure Bob Chiarelli to continue the Ontario Natural Gas Grant Program with additional funding under the next provincial budget.
