Centre Wellington tech team heading to nationals

FERGUS – After four months of practice and competition, Falcontech King’s Guard, representing Centre Wellington District High School here, will advance to the CyberTitan National Finals.

The competition, on June 8, will be virtual.

Students will compete from home and will feature the top 10 teams in Canada, battling it out in a test of cybersecurity skills.

CyberTitan III is the third annual national cybersecurity competition, in which, middle and high-school students can refine and test their cybersecurity skills.

Teams are given tasks involving cybersecurity operations and compete against other teams across Canada.

Points are given to the teams that perform the best.

With over 1,000 students and 200 teams competing across Canada, CyberTitan creators, ICTC, have selected the top 10 teams in the nation to go on to the finals.

Falcontech King’s Guard is coached by Timothy King and comprised of Rachel Routly, Edward Noel, Quentin Wolkensperg, Kyle Welsh, Arvid Kuitert and Nick Robichaud.

The team members are extremely proud of and excited about their accomplishments so far, understanding that they have been recognized as one of the best teams in the entire competition.

Speaking on the top ten announcement, team captain Rachel Routly stated,  “I think that we are in good shape for the competition. We have really worked on our collaboration which I think is super important for any team.

“The current situation is definitely shaking up our expectations, but it’s never a bad thing to stay on your toes, especially in an ever-changing field like cybersecurity.”
