Centre Wellington Singers looking for new members

ELORA – If you love to sing, Centre Wellington Singers (CWS) would love to meet you.

CWS is a mixed-voice, non-auditioned community choir that’s been around for nearly 30 years.

It comprises over 35 singers from the local community all coming together to share their love of music.  And there’s room for more members.

The choir performs two concerts per year – Christmas and spring – as well as performances in local retirement homes and community events.

CWS is directed by the multi-talented organist, pianist, former CBC executive producer, and Order of Niagara recipient Jurgen Petrenko.

Petrenko’s easy-going approach keeps things fun and upbeat while always managing to get the most out of the choir, officials state in a press release.

Accompanist to the choir for 20 years, Betty Weinstein is indefatigable at the piano.

“Her enthusiasm for all things music along with her attention to detail, help keep us on track on those rainy nights when our pitch is less than perfect,” officials add.

“We sing because it lifts our hearts, soothes our souls and brings us joy.”

Registration for the next  session is on Jan. 14 and Jan. 21 starting at 6:15pm at Hope Spring United Church, 75 Geddes St., Elora.

Registration is followed by rehearsal beginning at 7:15pm.

Cost is $75 per session.

Those who are nervous about joining can come and give it a try for the first rehearsal without obligation. Rehearsals are every Tuesday evening from 7:15pm at Hope Springs United Church in Elora.

The spring concert is slated for May 3 with the theme “Centre Wellington Singers Go to The Movies.”
