Centre Wellington Rotary distributes final grants

CENTRE WELLINGTON – The Rotary Club of Centre Wellington recently handed out its final grants as the club is closing down.

Funds were distributed to:

Empowerment Day;

The club donated $3,500 to the Upper Grand District School Board’s 10th annual Empowerment Day, where guest speakers inspire youth to pause and think ahead to their future potential.

Fergus Elora Soccer Special Needs Program

The club donated $5,000 to the Fergus Elora District Soccer Special Needs Program, which focuses not on soccer but on participants.

“This little-known program provides people with a chance to be a teammate, exercise, fresh air, comradery and a sincere feeling of belonging,” club officials state. “We hope that others will consider supporting this program in our absence.”

Michael House

Micheal House plays a key role in Wellington County and Guelph, providing and parenting programs for mothers and children in need.

“The boost-up that they provide improves outcomes for mothers and children alike,” club officials state.

Rotary Youth Leadership Academy

This program is a youth program offered by Rotary District 7080, of which the Rotary Club of Centre Wellington is a member.

Participants are selected for their leadership skills as well as their interest in working to make their communities a better place for all.

Supporting this program supports volunteers who wish to make a difference in the lives of others.

Rural Women’s Support Program

“The pandemic brought to the forefront an ongoing issue in our community…intimate partner violence,” club officials state.

Rural Women’s Support Program seeks first to understand and then provides support to clients, enabling them to make and carry out plans for brighter futures.

Shelter Box Canada

Shelter Box Canada has partnered with Rotary International for decades.

Donations allow this agency to store shelter boxes in warehouses worldwide.

When disaster strikes and shelter is required for citizens, the boxes are sent directly to disaster sites.

Purchasing the boxes ahead of time allows them to be delivered in a timely fashion.
