ELORA – Centre Wellington has now reopened playgrounds throughout the township.
“As we continue to proceed with the next phase of our reopening plans, staff have worked diligently to ensure we can safely proceed with reopening park playgrounds to families and children,” said Mayor Kelly Linton in a July 17 press release.
“We know how important outdoor play is for children, especially during these warm summer months.
“We hope families can enjoy time on our playgrounds and we ask that you follow the rules and regulations in place so that we can keep these facilities open, and safe, for everyone.”
Centre Wellington officials announced the reopening of parks in response to the province’s July 13 announcement that the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph region is entering stage three of the province’s reopening plan on July 17.
Stage three includes increased limits on public gatherings and the reopening most businesses and amenities, including restaurants and bars (indoor dining), gyms, playgrounds, recreational facilities and movie theatres.
The township closed playgrounds and facilities four months ago, at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Centre Wellington officials are reminding residents that outdoor park amenities and playground equipment are not sanitized and that the following guidelines/restrictions remain in place:
- maintain a physical distance of at least two metres, except for members of the same household;
- if physical distancing cannot be maintained, return another time;
- wash and/or sanitize hands often and after play; and
- practise good cough etiquette.
