ELORA – For the first time in over 20 months, Centre Wellington will open its municipal office to the public on Dec. 6.
“We are confident that we have the tools in place to safely serve our customers” stated Mayor Kelly Linton in a Dec. 1 press release.
“Our staff have continued to maintain a high level of service throughout the pandemic, and we will continue to follow all public health requirements to ensure the safety of one another and our employees as our facilities re-open to the public.”
The township will also reopen the Fergus fire station on Dec. 6.
Centre Wellington was the last of seven lower-tier municipalities in Wellington County to close its municipal office – along with other township facilities – on March 17, 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The municipal office will be open Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm but will close daily from 12:30 to 1:30pm for lunch.
Visitors will be screened at the door and be required to complete a COVID-19 health questionnaire prior to entry.
Township officials say the following restrictions are in effect:
- no more than two persons are allowed in the office at one time and they must maintain a physical distance of two metres;
- residents must wear a face covering when entering the building; and
- residents must use hand sanitizer when entering and exiting.
To limit trips to the municipal office, residents can still make payments and purchase dog tags and burn permits online or by contacting staff via email or at 519-846-9691.
Appointments are still encouraged for services such as marriage licences, cemetery and building permits (call to book an appointment).
Council meetings and committee of the whole meetings will continue to take place virtually, with all meetings streamed live online, recorded, and archived for viewing at centrewellington.ca.
