ELORA – Centre Wellington has now extended municipal closures until after Canada Day.
In an April 20 press release the township announced it is extending closures and cancelling all programming, rentals and events on township property until July 3.
“This decision was not made easily” stated Mayor Kelly Linton. “But … [it] provides community and sports groups with the ability to plan accordingly.
“We want to avoid our community groups having to spend countless hours planning for an event that may not happen. We will continue to follow the advice of our health care professionals and upper levels of government during this pandemic, and if we can open our facilities earlier, we will.”
The closure extension includes the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex in Fergus, Belwood Hall, Elora Community Centre, the Victoria Park Seniors Centre, Elora Fergus Tourism office, and the Fergus Grand Theatre.
Anyone registered for aquatic or fitness programs or who has rented a sports field/facility can receive a refund or a credit for future use.
All memberships are extended automatically for the duration of the facility closure.
“For members on a monthly payment plan, payments will continue to be withdrawn on the regular payment date,” states the township press release.
“Members wishing to stop payments, or members who paid for a full membership and would like a pro-rated refund, please contact staff to process the refund.”
Community services staff can be reached at 519-846-9691 ext. 903 or parks@centrewellington.ca.
All outdoor recreational amenities including playgrounds, sports fields, basketball and tennis courts, off-leash dog parks, skateparks, picnic areas, park shelters, remain closed until further notice.
Green spaces in parks and trails remain open but users must maintain a physical distance of at least two metres.
Township officials say up-to-date information will be posted on the township website and on its social media accounts.
