Community foundation supports 30 local projects with COVID-19 programs

CENTRE WELLINGTON – Using local donations and federal funding, the Centre Wellington Community Foundation (CWCF) has provided over $120,000 in grants to 30 charitable projects in Wellington County as part of its response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The foundation has granted $111,372 towards 21 projects run by local registered charities through the Emergency Community Support Fund (ECSF), which is funded by the federal government and administered locally by CWCF.

In addition, CWCF distributed a further nine grants to local organizations using its own CW COVID-19 Community Response Fund (CW-CRF).

This brings the total granting to $122,372 over 30 projects, ranging from food insecurity to technology, transportation support and mental health.

The beneficiaries are located in Centre Wellington, Wellington North, Minto and Mapleton.

Several local organizations came together to solve problems and apply for grants, officials noted.

“Through regular engagement with community leaders, CWCF has been able to support important causes and organization which is a vital part of our role in the community,” stated CWCF executive directorRaymond Soucy.

“We were also able to attract federal funding support to our community.”

CWCF also benefited by partnering with the Guelph Community Foundation and The United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin on several grants.

“Having the two programs allowed us to provide larger grants through ECSF, plus essential and immediate grants through our community supported CW-CRF grants,” stated CWCF chair Randall Howard.

“Thanks to ECSF, we supported programs in Centre Wellington, Wellington North, Minto and Mapleton.

“This is a much larger area than we have been able to support in the past. We know there is still a lot more work to be done, and we are looking to the community for support.”
