Centre Wellington comes second when it comes to lowest taxes in Canada

Coming in second is not necessarily a bad thing, especially when it means one of the lowest municipal taxes in Canada.

Centre Wellington Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj commented on a recent article in the National Post which stated at $879, Centre Wellington had on average the second lowest net taxes per household within Canada (of the municipalities surveyed).

That information was based on information gathered by the Frontier Centre and based on 2009 taxation.

Ross-Zuj said the article recieved the attention of the township’s director of finance, who received it from the township’s planning director.

She said the article talks about municipal taxes across the entire country and when it comes to the lowest taxes across the country “and I keep repeating that it is across Canada, we came second.

“It was a great article, and it’s one I am sure councillors could laminate and show to our ratepayers that we are doing extremely well.”

She said that based on the analysis of communities across Canada, “Centre Wellington has certainly something to be proud of in terms of how we are delivering an enormous amount of services at cost.”

It was stressed during the meeting that the comparison only applies to the local portion of the tax bill.
