Centre Wellington closing all recreational facilities, seniors centre

ELORA – Centre Wellington Township has announced more service and programming changes in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including the closure of all recreational facilities.

The following changes are in effect as of March 16 at 4pm:

  • all recreation facilities, including the Fergus sportsplex, the Elora Community Centre and Belwood Hall, are closed until April 5 (no new bookings or registration for programs and services will accepted);
  • the Victoria Park Senior Centre is closed and all special events, bus trips and Wednesday lunches suspended until May 1;
  • all performances at the Fergus Grand Theatre are cancelled/postponed until April 15; and
  • the Elora Fergus Tourism Office is closed until April 5.

Officials are also asking residents to delay all non-essential visits to the township office and instead use the internet and telephone whenever possible.

“The health of Centre Wellington residents and staff is our priority,” said Mayor Kelly Linton.

“With the COVID-19 situation changing rapidly, we are making our decisions with the support of Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health and other health professionals. We will continue to monitor this situation and make appropriate changes as necessary.”

Township officials have also cancelled in-home service requests and watermeter service, but township building officials will still conduct legislated visits.
