Centre Wellington Bowl for Kids Sake is slated for Feb. 24 to 27

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Centre Wellington is supported by a generous community.

The group’s largest annual fundraiser, Bowl for Kids Sake, is coming up on February 24-27, 2011.

Organizers hope area residents will consider participating by collecting pledges, registering a team or sponsoring a bowler.

All money raised supports local children in the Centre Wellington community.

In Feb. 2010, Little Sister Amy and Big Sister Colleen participated in Bowl for Kids Sake, as part of a team of Colleen’s co-workers from Broderick’s Clothiers in Fergus.

Together, their team raised close to $2,000 in pledges and won the challenge for the Small Business that raised the most money. With support from people like the staff at Broderick’s, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Centre Wellington is able to continue offering quality mentoring programs for local children.

For those interested in participating in Bowl for Kids Sake, sponsoring the event,  being a bowler, volunteering, or receiving more information, please phone 519-787-0106 or email bbbsofcw@aol.com.

What does Big Brothers Big Sisters mean to a child?

What does it mean to be a part of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Centre Wellington?

Little Sister Amy was asked to share her experiences. Amy participates in the group program and has been matched with her Big Sister, Colleen, for 1½ years. When asked what she likes about having a Big Sister, 10 year-old Amy says, “She helps me express my feelings and thoughts. I can talk to her to get things off my mind [and] she helps with problems… like bullying.” Amy also says she has lots of fun with her Big Sister, noting some of her favourite activities as: baking, going to the library, reading and doing origami. They both like to try new things, like eating new foods (liver was not a hit!) and Amy is excited that Colleen is going to teach her to cross-country ski.

Amy also participates in the Little Sisters Group Program. Her favourite activities at group include scrapbooking, learning new things and hanging out with the other girls. These programs would not be possible without the support of community members who donate their time, money or talents to the agency.
