ELORA – The Centre Wellington committee of the whole supported three demolition permits at the March 18 meeting.
284 Aqua Street
The owners of 284 Aqua Street applied to demolish the existing one storey, 1,019-square-foot single detached home, including the foundation.
According to the report prepared by chief building official Randy Bossence, the house no longer meets the owner’s needs.
“They wish to remove the existing house and attached carport and construct a new dwelling as soon as possible,” the report says.
The house is not recorded on the township’s heritage register and is not designated under the Ontario Heritage Act.
The committee of the whole approved the demolition permit.
198 South River Road
The owners of 198 South River Road applied for a permit to demolish a one storey, 1,054-square-foot detached home, including the foundation.
“The vacant dwelling is in poor repair and no longer meets the needs of the owners of the property,” Bossence said. The owners are planning to build a new house as soon as possible.
The house is not recorded on the township’s heritage register and is not designated under the Ontario Heritage Act.
The committee approved the permit.
63 First Line
The owners of 63 First Line applied for a demolition permit for a barn on the property.
The property is on the township’s Municipal Register of Cultural Heritage Properties but is not designated under the Ontario Heritage Act.
“Though the barn may have contributed to its heritage value, the integrity of the barn has been compromised, rendering it unsafe and warranting its removal,” wrote senior planner Mariana Iglesias in her report. “Planning staff and the heritage committee are of the opinion that demolition of the barn does not negatively impact the property’s remaining heritage value.”
The committee of the whole approved the demolition permit but kept the property on the heritage register due to the potential heritage value of the house.
