Colin Baker, of Fergus, will be Centre Wellington’s new director of infrastructure effective Aug. 27.
The announcement on Aug. 13 followed a closed meeting prior to the regular session.
Acting CAO Andy Goldie then read the announcement appointing Baker.
Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj said Baker is a professional engineer with a Bachelor of Applied Science, Civil Engineering from the University of Ottawa.
He began his career in the private sector before moving into the municipal sector working with nearby municipalities.
Most recently, Baker was an environmental engineer with the engineering services, development engineering and transportation planning division at the city of Guelph.
He had also worked as an infrastructure planning engineer and water resources specialist for Halton Region.
“He brings strong skills and an excellent engineering background to the township and he is excited with the new opportunity to provide new leadership to our public works department,” said Ross-Zuj.
Baker is a member of the Professional Engineers Ontario, Ontario Water Works Association, Water Environment Association of Ontario, and the Municipal Engineers Association.
A press release issued by Centre Wellington said Baker lives in Fergus with his family and he stated he is “thrilled to be joining Centre Wellington and working with the public works team to provide essential services of water, wastewater, roads and stormwater management to the community.”
Ross-Zuj added that on Aug. 27, Baker will meet the community.
“We’re certainly excited about bringing Colin on board and we look forward to his start date.”
