Celebrate the horse in Erin

ERIN – Horse Day Erin on June 8 will start off with a hearty Cowboy Breakfast at the Erin Fairgrounds.

Family entertainment throughout the day will include Bishop’s Wild West Show featuring four-horse bareback roman riding and trick riding, Bold Canine’s Mega Dogs agility show, and David Cowley will demonstrate his two-way trust horsemanship with his horse Tucker.

Kids’ activities will include pony rides, a petting zoo, games, and a chance to meet a “real” unicorn.

Erin’s strong horse heritage will be on display with archive photos, vintage tack, and horse-related antiques featuring an authentic Erin to Guelph stagecoach.

Equine educational exhibits and live horse demonstrations will take place throughout the day, rounded out with an equine equipment display, musicians, an equine trade show and food vendors.

The Horse Day Erin line-up will also feature clinics with Alberta cowboy, David Cowley.

Now based in Wellesley, Ontario, Cowley was featured in a 2018 documentary film called Back in the Saddle, winning an Equus Film Festival award.

Cowley was the 2015 Reserve Champion at the Calgary Stampede “Cowboy Up Challenge,” 2014 Pro Buckle winner at the Extreme Cowboy Racing (EXCA) World Finals in Texas and 2015 Pro High Point Champion with Extreme Cowboy Alberta.

On June 9, Ontario Xtreme Cowboy (OXC) racing will be coming to town for a full-day race with over 60 riders expected to compete over a course of ranch and trail-based obstacles, demonstrating an exciting combination of bravery, horsemanship and speed.

Judged by Cowley, this will be the first sanctioned race of its kind in Erin.

Horse Day Erin will be sponsored by prominent equine businesses and organizations in the community.

A portion of the proceeds will go towards the Erin Agricultural Society’s building accessibility project.

Tickets will be available online and at Budson’s – Provisions for Country Living in Erin.
