Catholic school board picks next year’s chair, vice chair

WELLINGTON COUNTY – The Wellington Catholic District School Board  (WCDSB) trustees selected their chair and vice chair for the coming year at a board policy and corporate services meeting on Nov. 18.

Marino Gazzola has been re-acclaimed as chair and Sebastian Dal Bo will serve as vice chair.

Marino Gazzola

Gazzola is a long-serving member of the Wellington Catholic District School Board having served for over 30 years as trustee including holding positions as chair and vice chair.

He is currently vice-president of the Ontario Catholic School Board Trustees Association (OCSTA) and served previously as president, vice president, and regional representative.

Chair Gazzola has also served as a member of the board of directors and key leadership positions with the Canadian Catholic School Board Trustees Association (CCSTA), including a three-year term as president.

“Gazzola has been a strong advocate for Catholic Education and ensuring students have the best educational opportunities possible in his terms as trustee,” officials stated in a press release.

“It is an honour to serve once again as the Chair of the [WCDSB],” Gazzola stated in the release.

“I appreciate the support and confidence of my fellow trustees and will do my best to serve in this role and as representative of the board of trustees.”

Sebastian Dal Bo

Another long-standing member of the WCDSB, Dal Bo has served as trustee for over a decade, which has included previous terms as vice chair.

As a former principal and teacher with the WCDSB, Dal Bo brings experience and a strong connection to the district in this role, officials say.

“I am grateful for the nomination and look forward to serving as vice chair,” Dal Bo stated.

“As trustees we are a team and will continue to work as a team to help support our students, staff and families in this upcoming term.”

Chair, vice chair

In their roles, Gazzola and Dal Bo will focus on the implementation of a new multi-year strategic plan, budget and policy oversight, and a focus on ensuring student achievement and well-being are at the forefront of board decisions.

Each will serve a one-year term, starting at the first board meeting in  December.
