Catholic board has $89.5-million budget

The Wellington Catholic District School Board has approved its 2010-11 budget.

The annual operating and capital budget is $89.5-million, and is balanced, as is required by the Ministry of Education.

One main feature of the budget is provisions for the start of the early learning program in five elementary schools. There are also increased supports in the area of special education and program, and there will be a continuing search for financial efficiencies through purchasing practices, energy savings, and conservation of resources.

“We are very pleased that this budget plan will continue to enhance the delivery of quality programs that have seen our students achieve significant results over the past few years,” said Director of Education Don Drone. “This is a very challenging plan and will require the continuation of prudence and good planning.”

During the coming year, the board will open a new St. Joseph Catholic elementary school on Guelph Street, St Ignatius Catholic elementary school on Colonial Drive, and St. John Bosco secondary school next to the Church of Our Lady Immaculate, all in Guelph.
