PONSONBY — Ponsonby U13 Boys Green and Gold teams played their ISA (Intercounty Softball Association) year end tournament in Morriston the weekend of Aug. 18

MAPLETON – Joel Rumph competed in the Canadian National Track and Field Championships in Sherbrooke, Quebec with the Laurel Creek Track Club from Aug. 11 to 13, where he represented Ontario in high jump.

GUELPH/ERAMOSA – Garin Dunton played for Team Ontario this summer, and the team won first place in the U13 National Lacrosse Championship.

BRUCEDALE – The roof on the Royal Distributing Athletic and Performance Centre in Marden is leaking and it will cost Guelph/Eramosa Township $44,000 to fix it. 

ERIN – A new senior AA hockey team, the Erin Outlaws, is launching for the 2023-2024 season with the Ontario Elite Hockey League (OEHL).

GUELPH/ERAMOSA – Council voted unanimously to look into the cost of adding lights to the soccer fields in Rockwood, at the request of Rockwood FC.

PALMERSTON – Local softball players Josh Metzger, an outfielder, and Zach Dobson, third baseman, are national champions, playing big roles in leading the Tara Longhorns to gold in the U15 Boys’ Canadian Fast Pitch Championship.

HARRISTON – Members of a Midget softball team that captured an All-Ontario championship in 1963 gathered here on Aug. 12 to share memories of the achievement.

MAPLETON – Mayor Gregg Davidson presented a Township of Mapleton athletic bursary of $250 to Joel Rumph at the Aug. 8 council meeting.

PONSONBY  – The Ponsonby Jr. Sting team travelled to Tara to participate in the Ontario Amateur Softball Association Provincial U13 Tournament.

FERGUS – Bringing home the National Lacrosse League (NLL) trophy was a “very surreal moment” for 23-year-old Carter McKenzie. 

GUELPH/ERAMOSA – The Rockwood FC U21 ladies soccer team won in the Ontario Women’s Soccer League on July 25.

ARISS – On July 28, Kiana Kurtz qualified for the 42nd annual Monster Energy AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship. 

MOUNT FOREST — Victoria Herrington from Mount Forest recently finished in the top four in the Ontario U18 outdoor provincials in doubles and placed in the top 12 in singles.
