HARRISTON – Members of a Midget softball team that captured an All-Ontario championship in 1963 gathered here on Aug. 12 to share memories of the achievement.

MOUNT FOREST – On Aug. 24 from noon to 1pm, partner organizations of the Wellington Guelph Drug Strategy will be hosting an event to honour the people in Wellington County and throughout Canada whose lives have been lost to drug poisoning.

PALMERSTON – “Where Have You Bean?” is the theme of the 2023 Palmerston Agricultural Fair.

MAPLETON – Mayor Gregg Davidson presented a Township of Mapleton athletic bursary of $250 to Joel Rumph at the Aug. 8 council meeting.

DRAYTON — Through Aug. 11 to 13, Drayton held its annual fair at the Drayton Fairgrounds on 49 Elm Street. The theme for this year was “from pioneer ways to modern days.” 

MINTO – The Leslie Motors Classic Ford Show filled the downtown area with eye-catching vehicles during the Harriston Street Party on Aug. 12.

KENILWORTH – The Mount Forest Lions Club is eyeing potential improvement projects around the community. Past club president George Laurencic pitched several early-stage ideas for council to ponder on Aug. 14.

GUELPH – Two Wellington North residents charged last year in connection with the 2008 hit-and-run death of Lucas Shortreed are expected to appear in person before Guelph court in September.

MINTO – Five cattle were killed as fire destroyed a barn southeast of Clifford on Saturday night. Everyone in the building "got out safely and no injuries were reported," a press release states.

MINTO – Deputy mayor Jean Anderson warned of a “dire emergency” approaching in local health care during remarks at the Aug. 8 town council meeting.

GLEN ALLAN – Maintenance work on the Glen Allan Bridge on Wellington Road 45, in the Township of Mapleton, is set to begin on Aug. 14.

MINTO – Town council has approved a site plan control agreement for a 99-bed addition to long-term care facilities at the Royal Terrace in Palmerston.
