WELLINGTON NORTH – Even with a second upgrade to Arthur’s wastewater treatment plant, there may not be enough capacity to handle projected future growth in the village, according to a recent development update provided to council.

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Local teachers' unions are criticizing the province's plan to end mask mandates after March break, saying it is premature, rushed and ties the hands of local school boards.

MINTO – CAO Derrick Thomson is leaving the Town of Minto to accept a new post with the County of Bruce. On March 14 the town announced plans to begin recruitment for a new chief administrative officer as Thomson announced his departure. His appointment as CAO for Bruce County is effective April 18.

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Following the province's decision to end its mask mandate, the Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB) and Wellington Catholic District School Board (WCDSB) are pulling the plug on mandatory masking when students return from March break.

PALMERSTON – Grand River Hospital celebrated World Kidney Day on March 10 by recognizing dialysis unit nurses at its satellite location here for going “the extra mile” to serve patients in the wake of a recent winter storm.

WELLINGTON NORTH – Council here has deferred awarding a $1.26-million contract for its asphalt program to the Murray Group until the numbers are in for a Highway 89 (Queen Street East) project tender.

MAPLETON – A Cost of Community Services Study conducted for Mapleton by the Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA) shows farm and forest lands generate substantially more revenue for the municipality than it costs to service them.

HARRISTON – An independent movie filmed primarily in locations in and around this community is set for digital release later this month. Godforsaken was filmed at Harriston and area locations in 2019.

WELLINGTON COUNTY – PrintFactor Media and Copernicus Educational Products each donated money to Groves Memorial Community Hospital to show their support for staff in this ongoing, long-going pandemic and that was converted into the snack boxes.

MINTO – Town council has approved the installation of a rainbow pedestrian crossover in Harriston.

WELLINGTON NORTH – Wellington North finance director and treasurer Adam McNabb is leaving the township for a finance position with Centre Wellington.

MOUNT FOREST - Twice delayed by the pandemic, the Mount Forest Fireworks Festival will be making a triumphant return from July 15 to 19 to celebrate its belated 20th anniversary.

GUELPH – The cost of compensating Wellington County councillors was about $915,000 in 2021. That’s a slight decrease from the $928,962 in combined remuneration councillors received in 2020. It’s also the second straight year with a total decrease.
