‘Catchin’ Farm Fever’ is 2019 fair theme

163rd Drayton Fair Aug. 9 to 11

DRAYTON – Catchin’ Farm Fever is the theme of the 163rd Annual Drayton Fair set to take place Aug. 9 to 11 at the local fairgrounds.

“Drayton Mapleton Agricultural Society volunteers have planned for months to ensure you are entertained this year as they have entertained thousands in years gone by,” Mapleton Mayor Gregg Davidson states in a message to fairgoers.

“You can look forward to events like the demolition derby, baby and pet shows, tractor pulls and so much more.” The mayor added, “I am so proud of the many volunteers of The Drayton Mapleton Agricultural Society who work tirelessly to ensure all who come have a fantastic time. Your countless efforts and long hours do not go unnoticed by council and we appreciate all the work you do.”

Agricultural society president John Klaassen notes a few new attractions have been added to the many poplar returning events.

“We are once again holding our ATV raffle, with proceeds going towards building improvements, two agricultural related scholarships and $1,000 towards the Wellington Farm Safety Program,” Klaassen states in his message.

Popular annual events such as the tractor pulls and demolition derby will again be part of the fun.

Gates open for the event at 5pm on Fri., Aug. 9, with the local tractor and truck pull that evening.

Gates open at 7:30am on Aug. 10, with exhibits opening at 10am. A heavy horse show begins at 10:30am, with goat and dairy shows also getting underway Saturday morning. Bubblemania, bouncy castles, pet and baby shows and a dog agility performance show by Diamonds in the Ruff all take place on Saturday as well.

The OTTPA Tractor and Truck Pull begins at 6pm Saturday evening.

Sunday begins with the Drayton Legion Breakfast in the Ag Hall at 8am on Aug. 11. Exhibits open at noon, when the beef cattle show also gets underway.

Tiger Paws Exotic Pets, a sheep show and bubble soccer are part of Sunday’s events, with the popular demolition derby getting under way at 1pm.

Admission is $10 for adults ($15 after 5pm and all-day Sunday), $5 for children aged 6 to 12  and free for those under 6.

A children’s wristband can be used all weekend. Adult weekend passes are $30 each. All events are held at the Drayton Mapleton Agricultural Society’s Fairgrounds, 49 Elm Street in Drayton.
