PALMERSTON – Carry On Women’s Institute (WI) hosted a successful fashion show here on July 7.
Over 135 people took in the show, themed Corsets to Bikinis: Costumes from the 1800s to the 1980s, at the Palmerston and District Community Centre.
2022 marks the 125th anniversary of the Women’s Institute.
“Many branches are planting trees or other types of memorials to mark the occasion,” states Carry On WI member Willa Wick.“The Carry-On Institute already has a tree in the Lion’s Park in Palmerston and space for more benches is at a premium, so we decided instead to follow the motto of giving back to the community and provide an evening’s entertainment.”
The show featured 10 volunteer models sporting outfits covering the 125-year time frame since the Women’s Institute began.
Fashions were provided by the Grey Wellington Theatre Guild, Harriston Historical Society and from the collections of Verna Wilkin, Doreen Sweeney, Diane Speers and Audrey Carswell, or borrowed for the occasion from various institute members and friends.
