The Walk for Cancer Care in Mount Forest, Saturday drew 21 teams with approximately 6-10 walkers on each team. Some individuals came out to walk on their own, supporting the worthwhile cause.
The event raised approximately $17,000, with donations still coming in. Funds go to Cancer Patient Services or the Louise Marshall Hospital Oncology Unit. The choice is made by the sponsors of the walkers.
Money from the sponsors is used to help offset expenses incurred to put the walk on. Once the expenses have been paid, there will be a donation from the committee to the two groups.
The event featured a ‘50s theme and prizes were given for the best ladies’ costume, best man’s costume and the best team costume. Prizes were also given for the oldest walker – male and female and the youngest walker.
Minute to Win It games were held throughout the day.
Lunch was provided to all the walkers courtesy of the Louise Marshall Hospital Foundation with dessert provided by Cancer Patient Services. Water was provided by Birmingham Retirement Community.
The day ended with all the walkers, cancer patient services drivers, and survivors being piped around the walking track by Piper Chuck Matheson.
