Wellington North council has approved a site servicing agreement with Canadian Tire.
Nearly seven months after first announcing the plan for the retail store to move, the agreement, presented during a special meeting on July 14, allows construction to start on the new site in the north end of Mount Forest.
CAO Mike Givens explained the terms may still change, but not substantially.
“We are still finalizing the terms of the agreement with Canadian Tire as we speak,” said Givens. “It’s not going to have a major change, what it really relates to is the timing of the payment from Canadian Tire if and when we upgrade Mount Forest Drive.”
The severance agreement is still outstanding, added CBO Darren Jones.
The township will cover almost two-thirds of the $313,000 site servicing agreement. The township portion includes $162,000 for road and storm sewer construction and $28,000 for engineering work.
Clerk Karren Wallace said the bylaw was added to the agenda for the already-called special meeting because “they really want to be shovel in the ground Aug. 1.”
The new store will be about 29,000 square feet with a four-bay auto service and seasonal garden centre.
Council passed the bylaw unanimously (councillor Steve McCabe was absent).
