They are Canadian Cowgirls – and proud of it.
Though the Canadian Cowgirls rodeo drill team is based out of Chatham-Kent, the team has a Wellington County connection.
Ashley Tomaszewski is from Erin, and explained that the team has riders from all over Ontario.
“I’m the cowgirl who lives the furthest away,” she smiled.
As for the group, Tomaszewski said, “It’s much like the musical ride, except we’re all female.”
The team travels all over Ontario and the United States.
“Currently we’re fundraising to be in California’s Rose Bowl Parade on New Year’s Day.
“That will be our biggest trip yet, and this marks the group’s 10th anniversary,” Tomaszewski said. “Because of that we wanted to do something big.”
One of the reasons they came to Fergus is because of Tomaszewski’s connection to Wellington County.
“I wanted to show the area that, even though the team is based in Chatham Kent, there is a local rider.”
She said the skill is something anyone can do and there is a drill camp where participants can learn how to ride the drill, make costumes, and learn what it takes to carry the flag.”
