CENTRE WELLINGTON – We might be singing “Home Canada” instead of “Oh Canada” this Canada Day, but there will still be a celebration, despite COVID-19.
Centre Wellington township staff have organized an evening’s worth of entertainment to enjoy from home.
“I am looking forward to celebrating Canada Day with all of Centre Wellington virtually,” stated Mayor Kelly Linton in a press release.
“This year the township is planning Canada Day fun for everyone to enjoy safely from their own backyard. I know my family will enjoy all of the activities planned, and so will yours.”
The broadcast, which will air the evening of July 1, will include local talent and artists, scenic sights from around the area, a dance party, Canadian trivia and virtual cooking classes. Enjoyment for all ages.
There will also be a “Canada My Home” front of home or business decorating contest. All members of the household can join in. The decorating theme will be in celebration of Canada and the nation’s heritage.
The panel of judges will consider design; decorations including animated; and unique and unusual items.
“Most importantly be creative, festive and have fun, officials said.
Prizes for “Canada My Home” have been donated by the Fergus Elora Rotary Club.
Contest information and registration forms can be found online.
Officials ask for registration to be completed before June 26 so that homes and/or businesses can become part of a self-guided drive-by home tour on July 1.
