After 31 years, Bonnie Callen is saying goodbye to the Wellington County Museum and Archives.
On Jan. 27, Information Heritage and Seniors Committee chairman Mark MacKenzie noted that Callen has submitted her resignation and is going to retire.
MacKenzie said more formal goodbyes are expected on April 29, her last day.
Callen’s letter stated “After working for the County of Wellington for 31 years, it is time to take a new direction.”
While her last day at the museum is April 29, her official retirement date is in June when her vacation balance is expended.
Callen wrote “Since I first started working at the Wellington County Museum and Archives I have appreciated the opportunity to pursue a full-time career in the heritage field.”
She also appreciated the opportunity that her various positions gave her to pursue “a lifetime of learning” through professional courses, conference attendance, research projects and policy writing.
“I will always remember my involvement in several special projects that the county allowed me to undertake over the years, in particular coordinating the county’s policy response to the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act in 1990, and chairing the county committees for the 2000 International Plowing Match and the 2004 [Wellington County] l50th anniversary events.”
