Caledon wants to take a tougher stand dealing with site plan amendments for gravel pits and quarries.
Puslinch councillors recently mulled over a request Caldeon sent to the top ten aggregate producing municipalities and the Association of Municipalities of Ontario.
The request is to make changes to the Aggregate Resources Act to include a more public process for site plan amendments to gravel pits and quarries.
Caledon wants the province to amend the act to include a full public process, public notification including Newspaper advertisement and a more robust evaluation of site plan amendments.
Puslinch Mayor Dennis Lever said mayors of the top ten aggregate producing municipalities held a conference call on Jan. 30 requesting to meet directly with the minister at the Rural Ontario Municipal Association conference at the end of February.
“We look forward to a number of discussions, and this will be one of them,” Lever said.
