Though it’s often said it is better to give than receive, Centre Wellington Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj quipped recently that some residents might want to pay a bit more attention before they give.
In her introductory remarks at the Sept. 17 council, Ross-Zuj noted numerous fundraisers throughout the municipality over the past weekend.
She pointed to the wonderful weather for the Fergus Fall Fair.
“There seemed to be a number of people responding to the fair in a positive way.”
Ross-Zuj also noted participation in this year’s Terry Fox run in Fergus.
“A lot of entries came out. And different entries.”
She noted the Mustang’s girls hockey team was out in full force as well as a group from Curves Fitness.
“It was so nice to see so many people out on such a beautiful day to support the tradition.”
Ross-Zuj also noted the Fergus firefighter tollbooth fundraiser for Muscular Dystrophy on the Tower Street bridge, “causing traffic headaches for everyone until they realized what it was for.”
She added “Everyone was quite cooperative.”
She commented about the number of people who just emptied their ashtrays into the bucket “and I don’t think they quite knew what was in there when they emptied it out.”
As a result, “a lot of unusual items appeared in the (donation) collection.”
