A little bit of fog didn’t dampen the excitement of students getting their first chance to ride on a school bus.
Dozens of students in Wellington County got a sneak peak into school life on Aug. 27, with the annual JK and kindergarten bus ride.
The session for students and parents offered a video, question and answer session and a bus ride to familiarize students with the safe way to travel.
The event was presented by Wellington-Dufferin Student Transportation Services, the consortium that provides bus service for both public and Catholic schools in the two counties.
Eight schools were chosen as sites to present the safety sessions, including three in Wellington County: Ponsonby and Brisbane public schools and St. John Catholic School in Arthur.
The Ponsonby location was used for seminars for Centre Wellington students. Bus operators throughout Wellington, Dufferin and Guelph helped present the safety sessions.
As one driver noted, the first day heading out can be as traumatic for parents as it is for the children. The sessions aim to allay those fears by teaching young students tips on waiting for, getting on, and how to properly ride the school bus.
Of course, the favourite part of the day for many was the ride itself; a precursor of what is to come.
