Puslinch councillor Matthew Bulmer is asking whether the provincial revamp of agricultural mapping in Ontario can be tied in with the farm tax credit program
Bulmer brought up the issue on Nov. 1 as part of correspondence from Uxbridge commenting on the provincial growth plan and the draft prime agricultural system mapping. He asked “would this perhaps be the time to ask the province if they are making changes to what is considered prime agricultural land, that it make adjustments to the farm tax credit program as well?”
Mayor Dennis Lever said that is an ongoing discussion at Wellington County working to get the province to correct that issue.
Bulmer asked if tying the two issues together might be helpful. He also believe municipalities might be more accepting of the mapping changes if there were improvements to the farm tax credits.
Lever said his concern is the mapping be correct before other discussions happen.
Council has previously questioned what areas of the township are being proposed to be mapped as prime agricultural land.
