Bruce Power donates PPE to frontline workers in rural communities

Wellington County among 15 municipalities that will be sharing 200,000 pieces of equipment

TIVERTON – The Western Ontario Wardens’ Caucus (WOWC) will be receiving 200,000 pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE) from Bruce Power to be dispersed to frontline community workers in the fight against COVID-19.

This is part of Bruce Power’s recent commitment of 600,000 pieces to be distributed across Ontario.

The WOWC is a not-for-profit organization representing 15 upper and single-tier municipalities – including Wellington County – across southwestern Ontario with more than three-million residents.

Bruce Power plans to deliver the PPE by the end of April, with the recipients then dispersing it to frontline workers in their communities.

“This commitment of personal protective equipment is part of our overall commitment to support local communities, rural Ontario and the broader needs working with hospitals and the Ministry of Health,” said James Scongack, executive vice-president of corporate affairs and operational services for Bruce Power.

“As a company based in rural Ontario, we’re very grateful for the work being done by the Western Ontario Wardens’ Caucus on behalf of its rural and small urban communities. We want to make sure that the courageous frontline workers in these communities have the proper personal protective equipment.”

WOWC chair and Huron County Warden Jim Ginn expressed his gratitude to Bruce Power for lending a hand during “a time when we all must be working together to control the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Ginn added, “These much-needed supplies will drastically assist our frontline workers who have been working courageously, selflessly and tirelessly in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.”

Ernie Hardeman, Ontario’s Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, said the announcement is a great example of rural-based companies and communities collaborating to help their people.

“This vital equipment will go a long way in ensuring their safety as we work together in tackling COVID-19, and exemplifies the amazing Ontario spirit which underpins our communities,” stated Hardeman.

Formed in 2001, Bruce Power is an electricity company based in Bruce County that employs about 4,200 people.
