A boy was sent to Groves hospital with serious injuries after being viciously attacked by a dog here earlier this week.
On July 17 at about 7:32pm, emergency personnel responded to a residence on Wellington Road 16 in Centre Wellington.
Police say two young boys, aged 8 and 9, were playing in a backyard when the elder boy, who was visiting his friend, was mauled by the dog of a neighbour.
The 9-year-old boy was taken to hospital “and required medical attention,” Wellington County OPP stated in a press release that offered no details on the boy’s injuries.
Later reports indicated the boy received dozens of stitches on his face, head and body.
The dog, identified as an American bulldog, was placed in a 10-day quarantine and was being held by the Guelph Humane Society at press time.
The owners and police will decide if the dog will be euthanized. OPP officials say police and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals are investigating.
