Woodlawn Bowl was alive with excitement here last weekend for the annual Bowl for Kids event benefitting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Centre Wellington.
“There’s lots of good, competitive fun,” said BBBS executive director Jane Cooper.
About 50 teams took part in the event on Feb. 26, and another 15 or so competed earlier in the week, helping to raise over $34,000 for BBBS.
“We just have wonderful support from the community,” Cooper said, adding businesses, service clubs and organizations from Centre Wellington are a big part of the success of the event, which has been running for over three decades.
Part of what draws people to the fundraiser is the sense of camaraderie among participants, which was clearly on display throughout the day.
“It’s very much a family affair,” said Cooper, pointing out the large contingent of her own family members that annually competes in the event.
She said she was very happy with the turnout overall, and the next day Cooper told the Advertiser she is confident that once the total is calculated, the event will meet its fundraising goal of $35,000.
