Boreal makes stop in Guelph Dec. 5

Boreal,  featuring Katherine Wheatley, Tannis Slimmon and Jude Vadala tour together once a year.

They will be performing at the Guelph Little Theatre on Dec. 5 at 8:30pm.

Tickets cost $22.60 in advance and can be purchased at the Bookshelf in Guelph or online at http://tinyurl.com/. Tickets can also be purchased at the door for $25.

Last year they released their debut album called Winter’s Welcome, a collection of old, new and original songs written about the snowy season.

Their ability to pick a great song, their love of beautiful lyrics, melodies and harmonies, their combined songwriting skills, their tour de force voices and the joy they feel singing with each other all make for an unforgettable event, organizers state.

During a career that has spanned more than 30 years, Slimmon has been a core member of the legendary harmony group The Bird Sisters, and sung harmony for the Rheostatics, Barenaked Ladies and Grievous Angels, among countless others.

She has earned numerous awards for her song writing and performances.

Like Slimmon, Vadala made a name for herself as a member of The Bird Sisters and has gone on to release two solo albums and work on more than fifty musical projects with artists such as Suzi Vinnick, Lynn Miles and James Gordon. Jude is also the co-founder of Guelph’s Hillside Festival.

Geologist-turned-folk singer Wheatley performs more than 100 solo concerts a year, while also singing with the harmony group Betty and the Bobs, and playing guitar in Wendell Ferguson’s band.

A featured vocalist on CBC Radio’s Vinyl Café, her music has also appeared in film and on TV.

Through her school-wide program Youthsongs, Wheatley writes and records songs with kids, and has produced 20 CDs with schools across North America.

Recognized as a well-rounded and multi-talented songstress, Katherine has received many honours.
