The Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB) will be busy with two construction projects in Rockwood over the next year or so.
A new $6.2-million, 34,000 square-foot school in the village’s south end is expected to open for the 2014-15 school year – and Rockwood Centennial Public School will receive a $1.2-million facelift, also in time for a September 2014 opening.
At its meeting on June 25 the board approved the plan to provide three full-day kindergarten class rooms at Rockwood Centennial Public School.
The board will use a competitive bidding process to select a contractor for the project. The work will include renovating two existing classrooms into one kindergarten room and expanding two other current rooms.
UGDSB spokeperson Maggie McFadzen confirmed the new school in Rockwood will also offer full-day kindergarten.
“We plan to have it everywhere,” said McFadzen, noting the program will be introduced at a large number of UGDSB schools next year.
