Highland dancers - Twelve dancers from the Blue Bonnet Lassies School of Highland Dance participated in the Fergus Scottish Festival highland dance competition on Aug. 8 and 9. Dancers competing were Maribelle McBroom, Scarlett and Gabrielle Jackson, Brooke Bailey, Ainsley and Kori Stewart, Eila and Fiona Gillies, Avaline Booth, Ella Murray, Ashley Elliott and Emma Horsley. On Saturday during the highland competition, the results were as follows: in Primary 5 years and under category, Scarlett placed fourth in Fling and sixth in pas de Basque and hi cuts; in the Beginner 8 years category, Bailey placed fifth in sword; in Beginner 13 years and over Kori placed fifth in fling and Seann Truibhas; in Novice 10 years Ainsley placed third and Eila placed fourth in Seann Truibhas; in Novice 12 and under 14 years, Fiona placed fifth in fling; in the Novice 14 years and over Murray placed first in fling, second in Seann Truibhas, and third in Sword, earning herself the runner-up trophy for her category; and in Intermediate 14 years and over Elliott placed second in sword, third in Fling and Seann Truibhas and fourth in Reel. On Sunday during the national competition, the results were as follows: in Beginner 9 and under 11 years Gabrielle placed fifth in reel; in Beginner 12 years and over Kori placed third in flora and sixth in lilt; in Novice 10 years Eila placed fifth in lilt and sixth in reel. In Novice 12 and under 14 years Avaline Booth placed fourth in reel and Fiona placed fifth in flora and sixth in reel; in Novice 14 years and over Ella placed fourth in flora and lilt and fifth in reel; in Intermediate 15 years and over Elliott placed third in flora, fourth in barracks and fifth in Lilt; and in Restricted Premier 16 and under 19 years category Horsley placed sixth in fling and sword.
