MINTO – The Isaac Foundation has been the recipient of $2,500 from the Blessings to You Centre, Palmerston.
In June of 2011, at the age of two, Jasper More of Palmerston, was diagnosed with MPS VI, an extremely rare genetic condition caused by an enzyme deficiency.
It causes progressively disabling symptoms including stiff joints, stunted growth, cloudy corneas, spinal cord compression, heart and airway disease and significantly reduced lifespan.
At the time of diagnosis More’s family joined forces with the Isaac Foundation and began fundraising to sponsor research into the condition.
Founded in 2006, this charitable foundation has “worked tirelessly to fund research projects into life-sustaining treatments to ensure quality of life for those affected by MPS VI,” officials state.
More was fortunate enough to participate in the gene therapy clinical trial and continues to do well, but further research is needed to ensure the project continues.
