Biomass may be the the way of the future – but apparently not quite yet.
Deputy-mayor Judy Dirksen attended a recent biomass workshop held in Palmerston with a guest speaker from the University of Guelph.
She said biomass uses plants to create energy.
She said a professor from the university talked about four different crops that could be used.
“I know there’s been some interest from the agricultural people in Minto,” she said.
She noted a lot of the time, the crops are grown on secondary agricultural land.
“The upshot of the whole thing is that right now it’s not cost effective … but it might become that way. It was interesting and it might be something we will be encouraging them to do,” she said.
