Earlier this summer, members and supporters of the Everpure Biodiesel Cooperative gathered at the Ignatius Jesuit Centre of Guelph for the 2013 launch of their B100 station.
This included longtime political supporters of the cooperative Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott and MP Michael Chong, as well as Mike Smith, farmer at the Ignatius Farm and CSA.
Now in its sixth season of operation, Everpure provides a closed-loop, environmentally sustainable fuel solution that supports local farmers, local businesses and local economies.
The cooperative is largely volunteer-organized and run, but employs one worker to collect waste vegetable oil from green restaurants, arenas, mall owners and businesses in the region bounded by the municipalities of Orangeville, Georgetown and Guelph.
Everpure is also expecting to increase the number of green businesses that use their product, including landscapers, couriers and regional farms, by working together to promote the shared environmental vision demonstrated by membership.
The cooperative provides the only retail source of B100 (pure biodiesel) in the province, and with reasonably fixed costs and stable supplies, offers a set price for the entire season, from May to October, which officials say means “no more surprise increases at the pump.”
