The Co-operative education department of Centre Wellington District High School is holding its second education Co-op Expo here on May 29 from 8:45am to 12:30pm.
Eighty-five students are currently completing a 15-week work term earning two or more credits in a variety of career areas, including arts and music, math, science, English, family studies, business, carpentry, auto service, and other skilled trades.
Co-operative education is one of the Ontario Ministry of Education’s six steps to student success. Co-op employers serve as partners and mentors for CWDHS students who are able to make connections between school and work and see the relevance of their classroom learning in a work setting. Employers in Fergus, Elora, and the surrounding community support the Co-op and are providing students with an opportunity to develop the essential skills and work habits required in the workplace.
The students are working in such diverse jobs as for the township, early childhood education, hair styling welding, flooring installation, Big Brother mentor, carpentry, landscaping, as a chef, veterinary technician, health care worker, and others. Several are working as Ontario youth apprentices.
All members of the community are invited to attend the Expo at the school’s auditorium. Students will display the skills they have acquired in the and acknowledge the support they have received from their employers.
