BETHEL 2 – DRAYTON 0
Brandon Shoemaker scored a pair of goals early in the first to give Bethel a surprising lead. Jim Wideman set up the opening goal and Shoemaker worked all alone for the second.
Although Drayton pushed hard to get into the game Derek Wideman held off 32 shots for the shutout victory.
COMMUNITY 5 – MISSIONARY 1
Both teams skated hard through the first period but the opening goal didn’t arrive until midway through the second.
Community’s Trent Lutz fed the puck to Sam Bauman as he hit the blue line. Bauman blasted a low slap shot through the five hole.
Missionary tied the game less than a minute later. Dave Scholten snapped a shot on net and Matt Duff stuffed the rebound into the corner.
Community stormed back and created a scramble at the net. Cal Martin stepped into the loose puck and rifled a shot into the open corner to regain the lead.
Community added one more goal in the dying seconds to finish off the solid second period. Martin and Tanner Hackbart set up Joe Clemmer along the left boards. Clemmer circled behind the net and threaded a shot into the near side corner.
Community started off the third with another early goal. Martin and Clemmer worked the puck along the net to give Hackbart a tip into the open corner.
Community used a face-off deep in the Missionary end to add another. Bauman slipped the puck across the crease and Tony Martin tipped it home into the open corner.
FLORADALE 11 – LISTOWEL 2
Although Floradale built up a significant lead, the scoring did not begin until midway through the second period. The team burst into action scoring five goals in the second and six goals in the third. Brendan Jefferson scored four goals, Josh Brohman added a pair, and Javon Martin scored a single. Tim Freeman had a goal and three assists. Ryan Weber and Nick Martin each scored one goal and earned two assists. Tim Martin had one goal and one assist. Dan Martin earned three assists, Mike and Ryan Martin each had two, and Willis Martin had one.
Listowel responded with a goal in each of the second and third periods. Phil Shantz scored on a breakaway and Josh Shantz tucked one in from behind the net, assisted by Mike Gingrich and Ray Jantzi.
