Choirs Ontario has announced that conductor Linda Beaupré has been selected as the conductor of the 2008 Ontario Youth Choir.
The conductor and director of Guelph Youth Singers since its inception in 1991, and founder and director of the Bach Children’s Chorus and Bach Chamber Choir (of Toronto) since 1987, Beaupré is known in Canada as a choral clinician and adjudicator.
She is a co-author of the theory series, A young Singer’s Journey, distributed throughout North. In 2006 she was named a co-winner of the 2006 Leslie Bell Prize for choral conducting, awarded by the Ontario Arts Council and Choirs Ontario.
In 2002, she received the Women of Distinction arts and culture award from the Guelph YM/YMCA.
The Ontario Youth Choir, founded in 1971, provides an opportunity for young singers from across Ontario to work with some of Canada’s outstanding choral leaders. Every summer 40 talented young singers are selected to participate in the program. This year the choir will spend ten days under Beaupré at the University of Ottawa before travelling to Kingston and Toronto for two final performances.
Choirs Ontario has also announced the Ontario Youth Choir 2008 auditions. All youth, aged 16 to 23 are invited. Auditions will take place in Guelph, Kingston, London, Ottawa, Timmins and Toronto. The application deadline is Feb.15. For more information see www.choirsontario.org.
