NORTH WELLINGTON – Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Wellington (BBBS) has cancelled its annual Bowl for Kids Sake fundraiser due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Unfortunately, we will not be able to host our traditional community bowling Sundays throughout February and March in order to protect the safety and health of our communities,” states a Feb. 5 press release from the group.
Instead, organizers are asking the community to participate in a “unique” campaign, from Feb. 15 to March 8, that lets them “choose how, when, where and if” they want to bowl.
“You can get a team together, bowl as an individual or family and get creative and bowl from your home, backyard, workplace or anywhere you choose with whatever materials you can find,” officials stated, listing the following options: snow, water or pop bottles, dominoes, wii bowling, plastic bowling sets, etc.
“The possibility to entertain yourselves is as endless as your creativity. Simply have fun!”
BBBS officials are disappointed with the cancellation of the organization’s largest fundraiser of the year, but they are hopeful people will continue to support the cause through a donation (etransfer to office_bbbs@wightman.ca), collecting pledges or running a Facebook fundraiser.
“During these trying times and isolation, the mentoring work we do with at risk children and youth is more important than ever for our childrens’ mental health and well- being,” states the release.
“Each year we are overwhelmed by our community’s generosity and continued support, and due to the pandemic, the need this year is greater than ever.”
