Century Theatre Guild opens a new season on Sept. 7 with the comedy/mystery, Baskerville.
Basing the play on The Hound of the Baskervilles, a Sherlock Holmes story, comedian Ken Ludwig has transformed Conan Doyle’s classic into a murderously funny adventure.
Local legend has it that the male heirs of the Baskervilles have been dispatched one by one by a huge and deadly hound which roams the Devon moors. When the latest heir arrives from Texas, Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson brave the desolate moors to find the killer, along the way coping with a dizzying web of locations, clues, silly accents and weird disguises.
Under the direction of Neville Worsnop, Ken Noakes appears as Holmes, with Peter King as Watson.
The remaining 45 characters are played with rapid changes of costume, character, and even sex by Denise Gismondi, Jason Riedel and Angie Sapalovski.
The backstage support needed for this tour de force is provided by stage manager Jo Phenix, with Loren Clough, Michelle Salmon, and Brigida Scholten. Erin Montgomery will be handling the technical operation.
See just how far from “elementary” the truth can be in this funny new production at Century Church Theatre in Hillsburgh.
The show runs from Sept. 7 to 16, on Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 2:30pm.
Tickets are $20, and may be reserved by calling the box office at 519-855-4586.
