ELORA – Construction work on the downtown Badley Bridge here begins on Monday.
The County of Wellington contracted Looby Builders (Dublin) Limited for the replacement of the bridge in Elora.
The county, in partnership with the Township of Centre Wellington, is having the bridge replaced in conjunction with the reconstruction of Metcalfe Street from East Mill Street to High Street.
The project will commence on Oct. 21.
Metcalfe Street will be closed in January 2020 for the removal of the existing structure and will be reopened in November 2020.
Cars will be detoured to downtown via Wellington Road 7 and David Street. Trucks will be detoured to downtown via Wellington Road 7 to Wellington Road 18 (Wellington to Geddes).
“There will be no impact to school buses or garbage and recycling other than they cannot cross the bridge location starting in January,” states an Oct. 17 email from county construction manager Joe de Koning.
Emergency services will be accommodated, but there will be no access across the bridge, the email notes.
