MAPLETON – Council here has approved plans for a new application to obtain funding for a proposed PMD arena expansion through the Green and Inclusive Community Buildings Fund.

MAPLETON – A 20-year-old male was airlifted to hospital in London with severe leg injuries following an industrial accident on an agricultural property here on Jan. 10.

ARTHUR – A mixed doubles curling bonspiel held here last weekend held the potential to be a stop on the road to the Olympics for some of the participants.

DRAYTON – A family of four lost its home and possessions as a result of Jan. 4 house fire on Wellington Street here. Mapleton Fire Chief Rick Richardson said it was fortunate no one was home when the fire broke out just after 8pm.

KENORA – A former Wellington County resident was recently recognized for a remarkable career in emergency medical service, much of it spent providing first response training in Indigenous communities in Ontario’s far north. 

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Minor hockey associations based in Mapleton and Minto are pondering an amalgamation. Families involved in both the Drayton Minor Hockey (DMH) and the Minto Minor Hockey (MMH) will be given the opportunity to vote on the proposal on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.

Bringing in the new year – The Fire and Ice New Year’s Eve party hosted by the Town of Minto and Minto firefighters drew a crowd of over 500 to the Palmerston arena on Dec. 31.

MINTO – A $142,000 contract for supply and installation of equipment for a commercial kitchen at the Palmerston and District Community has been approved by town council.

MINTO – Terms of reference for a Town of Minto diversity, equity and inclusion committee (DEI) were approved by town council at the Dec. 20 meeting.

WELLINGTON COUNTY – With a major storm warning issued by Environment Canada for the province, including the local region, numerous closures have been announced with more expected as the storm progresses.

MINTO – Council here has passed a resolution indicating the town’s support for plans by NRStor Inc. to upgrade its groundbreaking energy storage facility in Harriston.
